Scripture: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 NIV
In the book of Genesis, we may recall the story of Adam and Eve. In the third chapter, we find that Adam and Eve have committed the very first act of sin. God told them that they could eat freely from any tree in the garden. The only exception was The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Because they disobeyed God, and did the very thing He asked them not to do, they were punished and the ground was cursed. Now, years and years later, our flesh is faced with temptation, just like Eve's was.
We all have experienced shortcomings, whether they were big or small. (Romans 3:23) Sometimes we may even sin unknowingly. This is why it is important for us to confess our sins daily.
In order to be in good fellowship with God, we have to strive to remain pure and free of the things that aren't pleasing to Him.
When we confess our sins, we are acknowledging that we have done something wrong and that we want to be free from what is hindering us from having a closer connection with our Father. The thing about sin is that it creates a barrier between us and God, and in order to have that barrier removed, we must confess our sins and ask for forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 says that God will surely purify us, as long as we confess our sins and wrong-doings. When we confess, God shows us His faithfulness.

I'd like to leave you with the theme scripture for the next #LetsPrayTogether post; it relates to the topic of confession very well.
"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." James 5:16 NIV
When we confess our sins to others, they are able to go before God and intercede on our behalf. Whether it be a close friend, mentor, or a godly individual you trust and admire, find someone you can confess your sins to. In the theme scripture, we can already start to see the importance of confessing our sins to one another, but I will begin to share more about that in the next post: The Prayer Of Intercession.
My Prayer
Father God, we come before you today to say thank you. We thank you for all you have done and all you are going to do in our lives. Lord, even when we have sinned against you, you still remain faithful and still show us your overwhelming love. Lord, we want more of you, so today we confess our wrong-doings, knowing and unknowing and we ask for your forgiveness, so the barrier that is between You and us can be removed. Lord, we ask that you give us the power to fight off temptation, because we want to be more like you. Help us to read more of Your Word, so we can develop a stronger relationship with You. We ask all of these things in your precious Son's name Jesus , Amen.
This Week's Journal Prompt: Write a letter of confession to God. Tell Him specifically what your sins are and how you want to change. After writing your letter, take a moment to hear from the Lord. Write down what you've heard and your next steps to improving and developing a stronger relationship with Him.
