Today, I am speaking more towards my younger sistas and brothers, my millennials, my young adults----I wanna talk a little bit about fully giving your life over to Christ and even making the decision to make yourself available to Him.
Giving your life to Christ is one of the best decisions you could ever make! It’s life-changing! I personally gave my life to Christ at a very young age. The journey has been nowhere near perfect, but it’s definitely a decision that has equipped and shaped my life immensely! Without God, I literally don’t know where I’d be. He’s the reason I’ve made it this far in life. I give credit to nothing and no one else!
As a church kid growing up in a secular world, I’ve experienced and seen a lot of things. During my childhood, and even now, I wondered why people my age weren’t allowing Christ to be the center of their lives. In no way, shape, or form did I find myself being judgmental or harsh with individuals who had different beliefs, but it was simply a thought that ran across my mind often. Early on, I understood that giving your life to Christ is not always an easy decision---it looks a lot different for many people. For those that weren’t raised in the church, it may take a lot to make that choice of accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior----because it’s definitely a choice! As a young woman in ministry, I quickly understood that you can’t make someone give their life to Christ----they have to make that choice for themselves. But as a willing vessel, I’ve made it my mission to share the gospel, in the way(s) God has called me to do so. (Luke 14:23)
Growing up, one of the main reasons I realized young people aren’t accepting Christ is because they feel their whole life has to change. To be a little more specific, they believe that life is no longer fun when you make the decision to give your life to Christ.
Christians follow this lengthy “rule book” they call the Bible.
If I choose to be a Christian, I can’t have my fun on the weekends cause I’m supposed to be at church on Sunday, right?
I’d have to let some friends go...but I don’t really want to do that.
God’s still working on me. Imma get right one day.
Listen, this here “rule book” has a lot of gems. It’s actually more of a love letter from God Himself. There are so many rules because He loves us and only wants the best for us. It tells us that we don’t know the day nor the hour of Christ’s return. (Matthew 25:13) It also tells us not to boast about tomorrow because we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. (Proverbs 27:1) For tomorrow is not promised. So choose ye THIS day, who you will serve! (Joshua 24:15)
When you give your life to Christ, it’s not the end! It’s only the beginning! Saved folks have fun, too! Being saved is not a punishment. God wants us to enjoy life! The Bible helps us to set boundaries to enjoy life in ways that are pleasing to Him. Not only that, but in ways that’ll protect us from harm. I’m not saying that the choice will be easy, but I’m letting you know that making the choice to fully serve the Lord will take you so far!
And let me be transparent here: this message is for lukewarm Christians as well. I, indeed, used to be one of them. Doing things I knew weren’t in the will of God, yet still finding myself in church every Sunday. Whew chile, I’m glad I don’t live that life anymore. Do you know God would rather us be hot or cold? He hates lukewarmness! (Revelation 3:15-16) People of God, we have to stop riding the fence. This is what I mean by FULLY giving your life to Christ.
And I’m saying all of this out of love. We’ll make our mistakes, we’re so imperfect, but it’s our sincere efforts that God rewards. So, my sista, my brother, Are You Ready? Are you ready to let go of all that’s behind you? Are you ready to make yourself available to the Father? It’s your choice...
But if you’re ready, say this prayer with me:
God, I come before you today to say Thank You.
Thank You for sending Your precious Son Jesus to die on the cross for my sins.
I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord.
I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead so that I might be saved.
My faith is in You today and forevermore,
Amen
And that’s all there is. The prayer above is the first step to establishing that relationship with God and securing your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life. If you chose to say that prayer, know that I am so very proud of you! God is smiling upon you and has His arms wide open to receive you.
Remember, I love you. And most importantly, God loves you too!
